Agency:NCOUC - Group 3
Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:On January 28, 2014, shortly after 5:00 p.m., human skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area near vacant apartments in the 800 block of Wales Drive, Highland Springs, Virginia. The remains, belonging to an adult Hispanic male believed to be between approximately 30 and 37 years old and no taller than 5'4" (with forensic estimates ranging from 4'8" to 5'4"), were concealed inside four nested black plastic trash bags that had been tightly knotted and then hidden beneath an abandoned futon mattress and a fleece SpongeBob SquarePants blanket. The skull was found detached from the body, most likely due to animal scavenging or environmental exposure. Forensic examination revealed numerous dental restorations and determined that the victim had likely been deceased for roughly two to three years, placing his death sometime between 2011 and early 2013. The medical examiner classified the manner of death as homicide, with the cause listed as homicidal violence of undetermined etiology. Found with the remains were a nondescript pair of boxer shorts and a single rubber wristband printed with “Jumpology,” the name of a now-closed trampoline park in Richmond, Virginia.
