Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:On August 30, 2003, an unidentified newborn female infant discovered deceased in the 200-block of North Cottage Road in Sterling, Virginia (Loudoun County). Juvenile residents found the body wrapped in a towel in a creek bed behind the Sugarland Run Community Center in a wooded area. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office investigated the death as a homicide. The infant was described as a white newborn (though initially noted in some accounts as possibly mixed-race white and Black), measuring 1 foot 7 inches long and weighing 5 pounds, with dark brown hair, brown eyes, and an estimated postmortem interval of around 3 days at discovery. Authorities gave her the name "Baby Hope". A memorial service was held shortly after, where she was buried in a small white casket inscribed with a heart and the words "loved and cherished," attended by community members who left items like a pink-and-white blanket, a white dress, flowers, and teddy bears. A headstone marks her grave that reads Baby Hope Born Aug 30, 2003 YOU'RE LOVED BY SO VERY MANY
