Agency:NCOUC - Group 3
Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:Rachel Karr, a 27-year-old co-owner of a used car dealership on Fremont Street and craps dealer in Las Vegas, Nevada, disappeared on September 21, 1981, following an argument with Leonard D. Vignolo Sr. over money. She has not been seen or heard from since, and her remains have never been located. Evidence presented at trial indicated a confrontation at the dealership, including bumping noises from an office and Vignolo’s possession of a firearm. Vignolo was arrested in 1982 and convicted of her murder in February 1991, receiving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Prosecutors asseverate that he shot her during the dispute and disposed of her body in parts across the Las Vegas desert and China Lake, California. Multiple appeals were denied. Vignolo died in prison in December 2020. Physical descriptors include brown hair, green eyes, 5 foot 6 inches tall, approximately 130 pounds, and a belly piercing.
