Missing or Unidentified Person

On July 21, 2010, the partial skeletal remains of an unidentified white/Caucasian male were recovered from a wooded area approximately 20 feet from the shoreline near a beach at Buggs Island Lake (also known as Kerr Lake) in Clarksville, Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Forensic analysis estimates the decedent was 45–60 years old at the time of death, 5 foot 8 inches to 6 foot 2 inches in height, with a postmortem interval of roughly one year, indicating he likely perished around 2009. No clothing, jewelry, or personal effects were present; the mandible and hands were not recovered. Dental records show multiple amalgam restorations (fillings in teeth #1, 7, 8, 9, and 12), with X-rays and photographs available. No distinguishing marks, tattoos, or scars were noted, and no cause or manner of death could be determined. Mitochondrial and nuclear DNA profiles are on file with the Virginia Department of Forensic Science, and forensic facial reconstructions have been created to assist identification.
