NCOUC - Group 3

Missing or Unidentified Person

On July 13, 1996, in Egbert, Wyoming, the 45-50 year old decedent jumped from a Union Pacific freight train he had been riding on when it slowed down to let an oncoming train pass, but did not see a different eastbound approaching train on the opposite tracks. He originally landed in the space between the two rail lines, but ran into the opposite lane of travel and was then hit by the train, which was traveling at seventy miles per hour, and killed instantly. The accident occurred at mile post 470 and was approximately five miles west of Pine Bluffs.

According to interviews with two other transients, he may have boarded the train in Ogden, Utah. Investigators believed he was also transient.
