Missing or Unidentified Person

Larry Marvin Morris, 24, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was reported missing April 26, 1974, after failing to report for work in Riverton, Wyoming, where he had been temporarily employed as a seismograph worker. (Sources vary on the exact date — April 24, 26, or 27, 1974 — see non-public notes.) Morris had planned to visit Yellowstone National Park before returning home to Oklahoma but never arrived at either destination. A search of his Riverton residence showed no sign of forced entry or struggle. He is described as a white male, 5'11", 155 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing glasses with brown plastic frames. His vehicle — a green 1966 Ford, Oklahoma license plate RO-94 — disappeared with him.

Within weeks, authorities in Twin Falls, Idaho, detained a man who had identified himself as Larry Marvin Morris; he was determined instead to be Jack Raymond Lincoln, an escapee from a Colorado prison pre-parole program, arrested alongside James Franklin Jagers, a recently released Colorado parolee, after the pair broke into a store in Hollister, Idaho. Both men were found in possession of Morris's driver's license, credit cards, and other personal property, which investigators traced to use in Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, California, and Idaho. Morris's own vehicle was later found abandoned at a repair shop in San Francisco; the men had also rented a separate car there under Morris's name using his credit card, and that rental car was the vehicle they were driving at the time of their Idaho arrest. Both men denied any connection to Morris's disappearance and were never charged in the case; investigators have long treated it as a probable homicide. Jagers died in 2014; Lincoln died some years earlier. No trace of Morris has ever been found. The case remains open with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and the Riverton Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverton Police Department at 307-856-4891 or the Wyoming DCI at 307-777-7181. Case Number 741962.
