Case Details:On July 1, 1998, partial skeletal remains of an unidentified African American female were discovered by a property owner bush hogging a field adjacent to his home on or near Kerns Church Road in Sutherlin, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The decedent was estimated to be 25–35 years old at the time of death, approximately 5 foot 1 inches to 5 foot 5 inches tall, with black curly hair. She had been deceased for approximately several months to about one year (placing time of death likely in 1997). No cause or manner of death could be determined due to the condition of the remains. Distinctive features include gold fingernail polish on the left fingernails, a chipped lateral edge on the left maxillary tooth (#I2/lateral incisor), dental fillings, and at least one crown. Clothing items recovered nearby consisted of a size 12 black-and-white sleeveless blouse (with 10 buttons), a black bra, and a multicolored men's T-shirt.
