Gerald Michael "Mike" Bullinger, then 60, of Ogden, Utah, is wanted in connection with the deaths of his wife, Cheryl Baker, 56 or 57 (reported both ways), his girlfriend, Nadja Medley, 47–48, and Medley's 14-year-old daughter, Payton Medley, whose bodies were found on June 19, 2017, hidden in a shed on a rural property at 216 S. Kcid Road, Caldwell, Idaho, that Bullinger had purchased on May 3, 2017. A Canyon County Sheriff's deputy discovered the bodies while conducting a welfare check requested by out-of-state relatives. All three victims had been dead approximately one to two weeks and had each been shot; the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition, delaying identification. Baker was identified June 30, 2017; Medley and her daughter were identified August 8, 2017. Bullinger, a pilot who also worked as an outfitter, was last confirmed seen in the Ogden, Utah area in mid-June 2017. He is described as approximately 6'1", 240 lbs, with gray hair and brown eyes, and should be considered armed and dangerous. He may have been driving a white 2007 Ford Focus, Utah plate 129UMP.
The Canyon County (Idaho) Sheriff's Office leads the investigation, with assistance from the Teton County (Wyoming) Sheriff's Office and the FBI. A nationwide manhunt was declared; Bullinger was initially wanted for felony failure to report the deaths, and Canyon County prosecutors announced intent to file first-degree murder charges in August 2017. On July 12, 2017, Bullinger's wife's Ford Focus was located abandoned at the Pacific Creek campground near Moran, Wyoming, inside the Bridger-Teton National Forest, prompting an extensive ground, canine, and air search of the surrounding wilderness; a reported sighting on July 21, 2017, near Bonneville County, Idaho, could not be confirmed. No further trace of Bullinger has been found. Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue has stated investigators believe Bullinger is most likely deceased — by suicide, exposure, or animal attack — but the case remains open pending recovery and identification of remains. As of 2024, family members had filed a formal probate petition for Bullinger's estate in Weber County, Utah; this reflects a family/legal filing and is not a law-enforcement determination of death.
