Case Details
NCOUC - Group 3
Crime
Brittany Evonne Sara Phillips, an 18-year-old Tulsa Community College student, was raped and strangled in her south Tulsa apartment in late September 2004. She was last heard from on the evening of September 27, 2004; her body was discovered during a welfare check on September 30.
For roughly fifteen years the case centered on a male DNA profile recovered from the scene. In 2019, genetic genealogy identified the donor — but he was interviewed, alibied, and cleared; his biological material was assessed as an innocent deposit, not the killer's. Some 3,000 men had been compared to the profile with no match. That development retired both the primary lead and the DNA-derived composite sketch.
