Agency:NCOUC - Group 3
Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:On October 27, 2010, investigators in Lynchburg, Virginia, conducted an extensive search of a targeted area near the James River, suspected to be a potential burial site or clandestine grave. Despite thorough efforts, including ground searches, no skeletal remains, personal effects, clothing, or other evidence were located at the site. Subsequently, an individual came forward voluntarily and turned over a single femur bone that they had discovered approximately 15 years earlier, around the mid-1990s, as a child while in the same general vicinity being investigated. Forensic anthropological analysis of the isolated bone confirmed it belonged to an adult male. Stature estimation based on the femur indicated the individual may have stood between approximately 5 feet 7 inches and 6 feet 1 inch tall. Due to the limited nature of the remains—only one bone—no further details of the biological profile could be determined, including age range, ancestry, evidence of antemortem trauma, or any pathology.
