Case Details
NCOUC - Group 3
Missing or Unidentified Person
On December 2, 2003, a human femur was discovered on the shore in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with no additional remains recovered. The partial skeletal remains were turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Norfolk, Virginia, on October 13, 2009, and submitted for nuclear and mitochondrial DNA analysis, though no further results are available. Due to the limited nature of the discovery, the individual's sex, race/ethnicity, age, height, and weight cannot be determined, and no clothing, accessories, distinctive physical features, or medical data were associated with the case. The remains are classified as not recognizable, consisting solely of partial skeletal parts, with the head, torso, and other limbs not recovered. This unidentified person case is also referred to as Virginia Beach Doe.
