Missing or Unidentified Person

On November 24, 1992, the body of an unidentified elderly Black female was found wrapped in a blanket on an access road near South Adams Street in Petersburg, Virginia, by Southside Regional Medical Center ambulance drivers. The victim was estimated to be between 68 and 78 years old, about 5 feet 1 inch tall, and weighed approximately 71 pounds, with graying black hair and brown eyes. She had a significant healed midline abdominal surgical scar and scattered healed scars on her back and lower extremities. At the time of discovery, she was wrapped in a white sheet with flowers and butterflies and a blue sheet with flowers, and wore a pink slip and peach socks. A note left with the body claimed her name was “Wilma,” stated she was 78 years old, and alleged she had no family able to bury her, but investigators were unable to verify this information or locate any relative. The medical examiner ruled the cause of death to be a heart attack, and despite investigative efforts, her identity remains unknown.
