Agency:NCOUC - Group 3
Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:On September 29, 2020, human bones were discovered near I-495 and Van Dorn Street in Fairfax County, Virginia, prompting an investigation by the Fairfax County Police Search and Rescue Team. A follow-up search confirmed on October 9 that the remains were human and had been in the area for an extended period. Forensic analysis indicated the remains belonged to a Black male, estimated to be 25 to 35 years old and between 5'7" and 6' tall, who had likely been deceased for one to three years. The proximity of an abandoned camp suggested he may have been unhoused. Partial skeletal remains were recovered along with several items, including a navy blue "Neptune Garment" hooded winter jacket (size M), a long-sleeved blue "Pacer" 1/4-zip shirt (size M), a navy blue knit sweater (size 5), two "Wilson" socks with red/blue thread labels, a right sneaker with an American flag label on the tongue, and a cigarette lighter.
