Missing or Unidentified Person

Walter "Walt" Willis White, 61, was a rancher living in Harding County, South Dakota, near the small town of Camp Crook. White was last in contact on February 21, 1981, when he left his ranch home and did not return. His white pickup truck was later located in a deep draw on the ranch property — possibly Coalmine Draw — near a winter shed, but no further trace of White has ever been found. At the time of his disappearance, White was described as 5'8" to 5'10" tall, 120 to 160 pounds, with sandy hair and hazel eyes, and a distinctive crooked nose attributed to a break sustained during military service. He was last known to be wearing Levi jeans, a homemade denim shirt with metal snaps, a belt with a metal buckle possibly depicting a steer, and work boots with steel shanks.

White's case was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) on February 24, 2026, as NamUs #MP155883; a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children case number has not been assigned. No investigating agency, witness accounts, or search-effort details are documented in the publicly available sources reviewed for this case. White's status remains classified as missing; NamUs lists his current age as 106 years. Anyone with information is asked to contact the agency listed on his official NamUs case page.
