NCOUC - Group 3
Missing or Unidentified Person
On the morning of May 3, 2025, a volunteer conducting a survey for the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler discovered what appeared to be a human skull beyond a barbed-wire fence in the 78759 area of Austin, Texas, in Travis County. Responding personnel confirmed the find as human skeletal remains. A subsequent recovery effort located partial skeletal remains; the torso was not recovered, and the remains were assessed as not recognizable — skeletal parts only. The remains are believed to be those of a woman between an estimated 30 and 50 years of age, standing approximately 5 feet 0 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall. Her race or ethnicity could not be determined from the remains, and her weight could not be estimated. No clothing or personal effects were recovered at the scene, and no distinguishing marks, scars, or tattoos were noted in the examination.
The Austin Police Department and the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office are jointly investigating her identity (APD case #25-1230477; Travis County ME/C case #ME 25-02717). As of this writing she remains unidentified, and no cause or manner of death has been made public. The estimated postmortem interval and estimated year of death have not been determined. Anyone with information that may help identify her is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at (512) 974-5250 or the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office at (512) 854-9599, referencing NamUs case #UP143287.
