Missing or Unidentified Person
Jerry Ray Shanafelt, 54, of Riverton, Wyoming, was last seen in Riverton on October 27, 2004, wearing faded blue jeans, a blue flannel shirt, and a denim-lined jacket. Shanafelt has cerebral palsy affecting the right side of his body: his right hand is crippled and hangs at his side, and he walks with a right-sided limp. He also has a large scar on his stomach and is missing part of the middle finger on his left hand. He is described as a white male, 5'10" tall, with blue eyes and brown hair. No further details of his activities or whereabouts that day have been made public. He was reported missing to local law enforcement; some records list November 4, 2004 as the report date, which may reflect the date the report was filed rather than the date he was last seen.
The Riverton Police Department is the lead agency on the case, with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) providing statewide support. Shanafelt's case is listed in the Wyoming DCI's public missing persons database and carries NamUs Case Number MP14655. He has not been located, and his case remains open and unresolved more than twenty years later. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Riverton Police Department at (307) 856-4891 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181. Case Number R04-09991.
