Heriberto "Nony" Herrera, a 40-year-old casino industry worker and cab driver of Puerto Rican descent, was last seen in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 14, 2010. In the weeks before his disappearance, Herrera was hospitalized at Spring Mountain Treatment Center for depression from April 19th to April 29th when he was discharged.
On May 14, 2010, Herrera drove to his sister's place of employment, the Clark County School District Police Department, to talk with his sister but was unable to see her. That afternoon at 3:00 PM, his wife returned home with a police escort to gather belongings. Herrera was seen at the house by his wife and police at the house.
At the time of his disappearance, Herrera was a 40-year-old Hispanic male, 5'10" - 5'11" tall and weighed 200 - 220 pounds. He was wearing a gray t-shirt, red and white plaid shorts, size 13 Adidas sneakers, a 24-inch gold-link Cartier necklace with a gold charm of the initials HH, a half-inch gold and diamond wedding ring on his left hand, a gold and pave-set diamond ring with the initials HH, and electric-blue greaser-style Hoven sunglasses. Herrera has a scar on his abdomen and a ring around his esophagus from gastric bypass surgery. His nickname is "Nony." His left arm was broken at the time of his disappearance and he had a blue half-cast on it.
About a month later, on June 15, 2010, Herrera's white Toyota 4Runner was found abandoned on Mount Charleston near the Mary Jane Falls trailhead, containing a packed suitcase, his medication, and a water bottle pack missing one bottle.
In August 2011, hikers discovered a box of his financial records, ~25 credit cards, and cash at the 9,500-foot elevation level on the mountain.
Extensive searches took place in 2010 and 2011 with the assistance of experienced paid, volunteer, and citizen search parties. Items discovered in 2010, not identified publicly, but confirmed to be his, was processed. Herrera's recent health issues, broken arm that's in a cast, his physical condition, lack of hiking experience, and that he's an asthmatic make it unlikely that he would have willingly hiked to that elevation with a heavy box. His case is classified as an Endangered Missing Person.
