Agency:NCOUC - Group 1
Case Type:Fugitive From Justice
Case Details:David Allen Bonness has been a fugitive since 2013, wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and Pennington County, South Dakota, for multiple counts of child rape and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Bonness, a South Dakota native born in February 1968, allegedly began sexually assaulting his teenage stepdaughter when she was 12 years old. Following a complaint in December 2008, Bonness was questioned by police and submitted a DNA sample before abruptly ending the interview. When authorities returned the next day with a warrant, he had already fled the area. He was later charged with numerous counts of second-, third-, and fourth-degree rape, and his flight prompted a federal warrant for his arrest. Bonness remains on the U.S. Marshals Service 15 Most Wanted list and is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators believe he has strong personal and family ties throughout South Dakota, Wyoming, and Nebraska, regions that may have provided him with shelter and limited mobility under assumed identities. Known to possess mechanical skills and past experience in auto body repair, he may seek work in similar trades to sustain himself while on the run. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to his capture. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts should contact the U.S. Marshals Service or local law enforcement immediately.
