Jance Wesly Varela, 40, of the Loveland/Fort Collins, Colorado area was last confirmed seen on June 1, 2022 . Varela had recently been staying with friends after losing his apartment the previous year, and was reportedly experiencing homelessness and an opioid addiction following a prior surgery. He had also just been diagnosed in May 2022 with a brain tumor connected to a pre-existing genetic condition (tuberous sclerosis), which family members believe may have been affecting his judgment. Family became concerned when Varela did not call his mother, Linda Varela Adams, on her birthday on July 1, 2022, which was uncharacteristic of him, and a missing person report was filed with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office shortly after. Varela is described as a White male, 6’4” tall, approximately 140 pounds, with gray/partially gray and brown hair and brown eyes. He wears eyeglasses, is missing several teeth, has a large scar on his abdomen, and has the Greek letter Pi (π) tattooed on his left hand; he may also have facial hair.
Investigators have interviewed Varela’s friends and family and followed up on reported tips regarding his whereabouts but have not located him; the agency has stated that, based on information developed during the investigation, there is concern for his well-being, though no evidence of foul play or of an intent to cut off contact with family has been identified. A $10,000 cash reward is available for information leading to the resolution of the case.
