Missing or Unidentified Person

In the summer of 1995, dismembered human remains belonging to a single unidentified adult white/Caucasian male were discovered over several weeks in the coastal areas of Maryland and Virginia near Assateague Island and Chincoteague Bay. The discoveries began on June 27, when a camper found a Dr. Scholl's black leather sneaker (size 7), (original news reported size 10), containing a human foot and white sock, in Assateague State Park, Maryland. Three days later, on June 30, a passerby located a detached leg in Chincoteague, Accomack County, Virginia. On July 4, another human foot was recovered in Maryland. Finally, on August 14, a headless and limbless torso washed up in Chincoteague Bay near Greenbackville, Virginia. Forensic examination confirmed all parts belonged to the same individual, described as an adult male of undetermined specific age (broadly estimated between 20 and 99 years old), approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 125 pounds. The estimated time of death was several months prior to the discoveries, placing the year of death roughly in 1994 or 1995. Personal effects found with the remains provided potential clues to his identity and background. These included Rustler blue jeans (with a 30-inch brown belt), purple or black briefs, a blue hooded sweatshirt (size Medium) labeled "Bay Trading," and a windbreaker containing Coby CB-Z headphones. In the jeans pockets were seven one-dollar bills, a New York City subway token, a pack of Ricola cough drops, a pack of Lifesavers, Chapstick, and a black comb. A red ink pen inscribed with "Lipizzana Restaurant, 987 Second Ave. NY" was also recovered from the windbreaker. DNA was extracted and is available. His remains are still located at the Medical examiner's office
