Robert Carl Befort, 42, known to friends as "Bob" or "Biker Bob," a mechanic and musician, went missing from Silver Springs, Nevada on July 21, 2000. He left behind a note describing health problems and suggesting funeral arrangements, but investigators do not believe he took his own life; the Lyon County Sheriff's Office classifies his case as a suspected homicide.
He was last seen driving his green 1969 Chevrolet Corvette, Nevada license plate 655KHU (expired 2000), which was later reported stolen and has never been recovered. He is described as a white male, 6'3"–6'4" and 165–180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes, who wore eyeglasses; he had a surgical scar on his abdomen, a sixteen-inch surgical scar along his spine, and tattoos of a girl on his upper left arm and the words "LIVE TO RIDE" on his upper right arm. An unconfirmed possible sighting placed him at a pawn shop in Fallon, Nevada in March 2001.
Lyon County Sheriff's Office Detective Lieutenant Jerry Pattison, who oversees the county's cold cases, has said investigators have a person of interest in Befort's disappearance — someone who lives out of state and has a history — though that person has not been publicly identified and no charges have been filed.
