NCOUC - Group 3

Missing or Unidentified Person

On January 26, 2005, in Accomack County, Virginia, a fishing trawler recovered partial human remains, specifically a pelvis, from the Atlantic Ocean. The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, with forensic analysis estimating the time since death at approximately 12 months, placing the year of death between 2004 and early 2005. The decedent was determined to be an adult male under 50 years old, most likely between 35 and 45 years of age, and of short stature, estimated at between 5 feet and 5 feet 3 inches tall. Black pubic hair remained intact on the remains, and the individual was wearing gray Hanes men's brief underwear with a black waistband at the time of recovery. No additional skeletal elements, such as the head, were recovered, and details regarding the individual's race, weight, hair color (beyond the pubic hair), or eye color could not be determined.
