Margaret "Peggy" Eileen Pennington, 40, was living at the 5 Star Mobile Home Park on West 5th Street in Silver Springs, Nevada, when she was last seen on the afternoon of July 2, 1999. Pennington's son, Timothy Ray Pennington, and his wife were at the residence watching television when Pennington left on foot; both later told investigators she showed no unusual behavior and had mentioned there was food in the kitchen before she went. Pennington had left home for periods of time in the past but had always returned to collect her Social Security check; she has not been seen or heard from since. At the time of her disappearance, Pennington was described as a white female, 5'1" tall and about 180 pounds, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and a birthmark on her upper right buttock. She was last seen wearing a short-sleeved blue sweater, black jeans, and white sneakers, and wearing a yellow metal wedding band. She is also known by the nickname "Peggy" and may use the last name Bernald-Pennington. No vehicle has been reported in connection with her disappearance.
From early in the investigation, detectives have held the view that Pennington was likely the victim of homicide, and they have identified a person close to her as a suspect in the case; it is not established in public records whether that person, or anyone else named in connection with the case, has been formally cleared. Pennington's son, Timothy Ray Pennington, who was present in the home the day she disappeared, was convicted in 2000 of kidnapping his estranged wife at gunpoint during a domestic dispute; after his release from prison in 2012 he killed his girlfriend and then took his own life. It is not publicly documented whether he was ever formally ruled out as a suspect in his mother's disappearance. Her case is classified as a suspicious missing person, presumed homicide victim.
