Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:On March 5, 2003, the body of an unidentified teenage male was discovered floating in the Elizabeth River near Harbor Park Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia. Authorities estimated that he had been deceased for approximately one week prior to recovery. The decedent stood 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 135 pounds. He was fully clothed at the time of discovery, wearing a black shirt featuring sailboat illustrations, blue jeans secured with a brown leather belt that had a distinctive horse buckle, plaid boxers, socks, and brown Brahma brand work boots. No scars or tattoos were observed on his body. Initial assessments of his race varied, with suggestions of white/Caucasian, possible Asian with European admixture, or Hispanic/Latino heritage, and his age was broadly estimated between 13 and 21 years old (or up to 25 in some early evaluations). Subsequent DNA analysis has conclusively determined that he was Hispanic/Latino. More refined forensic dental examination, conducted with assistance from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), narrowed his estimated age to 13–17 years old. His cause of death was determined to be drowning. He is currently undergoing Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG) with DNA Doe Project to help establish his identity.
