Agency:NCOUC - Group 3
Case Type:Missing or Unidentified Person
Case Details:On August 14, 2015, two AEP subcontractors from Environmental Solutions and Innovations Incorporated discovered human remains near a truck escape ramp on Interstate 77 in Bland County, Virginia, and delivered them to the Bland County Sheriff's Office in a white trash bag. The remains included a partial human skull and bone fragments found in a creek bed near Route 52 and Shadow Wood Lane, Bastian, Virginia, along with items such as a clear zip-lock bag, a white Walmart shopping bag, navy blue men's work pants, brown steel-toed boots, a blue sock, a white sock, a black kitchen knife, a plaid long-sleeve shirt, and an Old Timer pocket knife. A brief examination by the Sheriff's Office and a subsequent investigation by Virginia State Police revealed trauma on the skull, suggesting foul play. The individual is estimated to be 18-80 years old with a post-mortem interval of approximately two years. Dental records and DNA are available for identification.
